The short version
- We use your information to run Donty for you. We don’t sell it, and we don’t use it for advertising.
- Donty never receives or stores recordings of your voice.
- What you ask Donty is processed by our AI provider, Anthropic, which doesn’t use it to train its models. We ask your permission first.
- Your Donty data is stored in the European Union.
- You can export or delete everything from inside the app, at any time.
1. Who we are
Donty is run by CH Ventures, trading as Donty (“we”, “us”, “our”). We are the controller of the personal information described in this policy, which means we decide how and why it’s used.
- Address: [your business address]
- Email: hello@donty.app
- ICO registration number: [ICO registration number]
This policy covers the Donty app and this website (donty.app).
2. What we collect
| Information | Examples | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Account details | Your email address, your first name and sign-in codes | You |
| What you tell Donty | The text of what you say or type, and everything you save: tasks, events, notes, habits, goals, protected time, areas, the people you mention and anything you tell Donty about them, and your conversations with Donty | You |
| Preferences | Your working hours, the shape of your day, reminder, alarm and voice settings, your theme, what you’d like help with (from setup) and your consent choices | You |
| Calendar information | Event titles, times, locations and other details from the calendars you choose to show in Donty | Your phone’s calendar, only with your permission |
| Location (optional) | Your location, used for weather and travel times | Your phone, only if you turn on “Weather & travel times” and allow location access while using the app |
| Subscription details | Your plan, trial and renewal dates, and a purchase ID | Apple or Google, through RevenueCat |
| Device and technical details | A notification token, app version, phone model, operating system version and error details | Your phone |
| Usage statistics | Which features are used, such as “capture saved” or “check-in done”. Never what you said or saved | Your phone. You can turn them off at any time in Settings |
| Support messages | Your name, email address and whatever you tell us | You |
What we don’t collect: recordings of your voice, your contacts, your payment card details, health data from Apple Health or other health apps, or advertising identifiers. We don’t track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
3. How Donty uses AI
Donty’s assistant is powered by AI. Here’s exactly what that involves.
- Understanding you. When you ask Donty something, the text of your request is sent to Anthropic, the company behind the Claude AI models, along with the context Donty needs to answer well. That can include relevant tasks and notes, upcoming calendar events, your protected time, people you’ve told Donty about, your preferences and recent messages in the conversation.
- No training. Anthropic processes this on our behalf under its commercial terms. It doesn’t use it to train its models, and it normally deletes it within 30 days, unless it needs to keep it longer to investigate misuse or because the law requires it.
- Speaking to you. When Donty talks back, the text of its reply is sent to Google Cloud Text-to-Speech to create the voice. Your own voice is never sent.
- Hearing you. Your speech is turned into text by your phone’s built-in speech recognition (Apple’s on iPhone, Google’s on Android). Depending on your device and settings, this happens on the phone or on Apple’s or Google’s servers, under their own privacy policies. We never receive the audio.
- Your permission. Before Donty first sends anything to AI, it explains what’s shared and asks for your permission. You can withdraw it in Settings at any time. Without it, Donty’s AI features stop working, but you can still see and edit what you’ve already saved.
- Mistakes. AI can get things wrong. Donty shows you what it understood, and you should check anything important.
Donty doesn’t make decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects. It organises what you ask it to.
4. Why we use your information
Data protection law requires a “lawful basis” for each way we use personal information. These are ours.
| What we do | Lawful basis |
|---|---|
| Create your account, run Donty, save your things and send your reminders and alarms | Contract: we need it to provide the service you’ve asked for |
| Send your requests to our AI providers so Donty can understand and reply | Contract: it’s how Donty provides the features you ask for. We also ask your permission in the app before anything is shared with AI. Explicit consent for any health information (see section 5) |
| Show and update your calendar | Contract. Donty can only see your calendar if you allow it on your phone |
| Use your location for weather and travel times | Consent. Off unless you turn it on, and you can turn it off at any time |
| Manage your subscription | Contract, and legal obligation for tax and accounting records |
| Count which features are used, so we can improve Donty | Legitimate interests: understanding what helps people, using no content and with an easy way to switch it off |
| Send service emails, like sign-in codes and important changes | Contract |
| Reply to your support messages | Legitimate interests: helping you |
| Keep Donty secure, prevent misuse and meet our legal obligations | Legitimate interests and legal obligation |
We don’t send marketing emails. If that ever changes, we’ll ask you first, and every email will have an unsubscribe link.
5. Health information
Donty is built with ADHD in mind, so you might mention things about your health, like a diagnosis, how you’re feeling or a reminder to take medication. You never have to.
If you do, the law treats it as “special category” information that needs extra care. We only use it to do what you’ve asked Donty to do, on the basis of your explicit consent, which you give when you agree to Donty’s AI permission in the app. You can withdraw it at any time in Settings, and you can delete anything you’ve saved. We never use health information for anything else.
6. Who we share it with
We don’t sell your personal information or share it for advertising. We use a small number of trusted providers who process it on our behalf, under contracts that require them to keep it secure and use it only on our instructions.
| Provider | What they do for Donty | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, sign-in and server functions | European Union (Paris, France) |
| Anthropic | AI that understands your requests and writes Donty’s replies | USA |
| Google Cloud | Turns Donty’s replies into speech | USA and other countries |
| Apple | Push notifications, plus weather forecasts and travel times if you turn on “Weather & travel times” | USA and other countries |
| RevenueCat | Keeps track of your subscription status | USA |
| Resend | Sends sign-in codes and service emails | USA |
| Expo | Delivers app updates to your phone | USA |
| PostHog | Usage statistics (you can switch these off in Settings) | European Union |
| Our email provider | Receives and stores support emails sent to hello@donty.app | [your email provider and its location] |
| Our website host | Hosts this website | [your website host and its location] |
Apple and Google also run the App Store and Google Play. When you subscribe, they take the payment as independent controllers under their own privacy policies. We never see your card details.
We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect people’s safety, or if Donty is ever sold or merged, in which case we’ll tell you first and this policy will continue to protect your information.
7. International transfers
Your Donty data is stored in the European Union. Some of the providers above are based in the USA or elsewhere. Whenever your information leaves the UK, we make sure it’s protected in one of the ways UK law allows: the country has UK “adequacy” status (including US companies certified under the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework), or we use the Information Commissioner’s International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. Contact us if you’d like more detail.
8. How long we keep it
- Your account and everything in it: for as long as your account is open. When you delete your account, it’s removed from our live database straight away, and from our hosting provider’s rolling backups within 30 days.
- Things you delete: kept in “Recently deleted” for 30 days so you can restore them, then removed.
- Inactive accounts: if you haven’t used Donty for 2 years and don’t have an active subscription, we may delete your account. We’ll email you first.
- Support messages: up to 2 years after our last contact.
- Subscription records: up to 6 years, where tax and accounting law requires it.
- Usage statistics: up to 2 years, or until you switch them off.
- AI providers: see section 3.
9. Your rights and choices
You have the right to:
- get a copy of your personal information
- have it corrected if it’s wrong
- have it deleted
- restrict or object to how we use it
- receive it in a format you can take elsewhere
- withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on it (this doesn’t affect anything we did before)
- complain to us, and to the Information Commissioner’s Office
Many of these are built into the app:
- Export my data and Delete my account in Settings
- the AI permission, usage statistics and Weather & travel times switches in Settings
- your iPhone or Android settings for calendar, microphone, location and notifications
For anything else, email hello@donty.app. It’s free, and we’ll reply within one month. We may need to confirm it’s really you before we act. You can also delete your account without the app.
10. Children
Donty is for adults. It isn’t intended for anyone under 18, and we don’t knowingly collect information about children. If you think a child has given us information, please contact us and we’ll delete it.
11. Security
Your information is encrypted in transit and at rest. Our database is set up so that each account can only ever access its own data, and access to our systems is limited and protected. No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to protect yours, and if a breach ever put you at risk we’d tell you and the Information Commissioner’s Office as the law requires.
12. This website
This website doesn’t use cookies, analytics or tracking, and it doesn’t load anything from other companies. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses and browser types, for a short time to keep the site secure.
The contact form doesn’t send anything by itself. It opens your own email app with your message ready, and nothing reaches us until you press send.
13. Changes to this policy
We’ll update this policy when Donty changes. The date at the top shows the latest version. If we make a significant change, we’ll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
14. Contact and complaints
Questions, requests or concerns about your privacy: email hello@donty.app or write to CH Ventures, [your business address].
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, please tell us first. We’ll acknowledge your complaint within 30 days, look into it properly and let you know the outcome without undue delay.
You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or 0303 123 1113.
